New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 Review: Marc Jacobs

Victoriana meets late-night rave. That was the mood of the Marc Jacobs fall 2012 runway show, a madcap fashion omp with a charming, childhood innocence, and a white enchanted forest set created by Rachel Feinstein.

With Lionel Bart's soaring lyrics, "Who will buy this wonderful feeling? I'm so high, I swear I could fly!" from the musical "Oliver!" on the sound track one couldn't help but imagine the models as chic street urchins and flower sellers, nannies and grannies, in outsized hats, color-saturated tinsel tweed frock coats and skirts, crocheted sweaters, argyle socks and pilgrim shoes with enormous rhinestone buckles.

The madcap combinations, clashing colors and prints, also called to mind the surging blogger class of fashion fan boys and girls, the Tavi Gevinson, Susie Bubble and Bryan Boys of the world, and their wide-eyed Hollywood compatriots, like Dakota Fanning, who was sitting front row. For that generation, fashion isn't so much about money and status as it is about personal peacockery, the louder the better.
There was nothing jaded here, just pure, unabashed fashion fun -- as if Jacobs was trying to remind us all of why we got into this business, because we love dressing up.

Fashion Is Dead NOT: Alexander McQueen

Tomorrow will be marking two years since Alexander McQueen died, while the others are still shocked & unwilling to accept his death [we all know I never fit in well with the others lol! besides i was not made to fit in] i decide to make my own way.... Praising the dead ♥

Alexander McQueen was a British Fashion Designer & Couturier best known for his in-depth knowledge of bespoke British tailoring, his tendency juxtapose strength with fragility in his collections, as well as the emotional power and raw energy of his provocative fashion shows.

 
His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs. He is also known for having worked as chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001 and for founding his own label under the name Alexander McQueen.^[2] His achievements in fashion earned him four British Designer of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003), as well as the CFDA's International Designer of the Year award in 2003.

African in New York: Nana Boateng

This ain't Niggas In Paris. Its an African in New York, bringing the horses to Africa....Still looking for the right way to do the wrong things, but know this...you can never stop loving him.

Nana Boateng, Hollywood fashion designer & stylist is  Ghana raising heart and cousin of Oswald Boateng,the men can dress themselves just as they are able to dress their clients. With sophistication and class, He [Nana] is no doubt going big with his clothing line Akua Adoma, he started like 10 summers ago in 2001. Nana counts celebrities like Will Smith, Tobey Maguire, Djimon Hounsou,Russel Crowe, James Franco as some of his devoted clients.

Style Stalk: Those Jeans, Blake Diamond

Distressed ripped jeans are not a new fashion style. They have been around for quite some time, since the grundge days in the 90's, back when Kobe had hair, when Allen Iverson was "The Answer" not "The Forgotten" & everyone loved LeBron. They have been quite popular  since then. I liked to wear them back then and still do now, although I wear them less frequently.

Ripped jeans, torn jeans, destroyed jeans, or whatever name you want to call them, are in style again today as a number of blogs sport them. I like them because they convey a care-free, non-conformist or even a bit rebellious attitude of the wearer. You also have to be confident to wear them,Some people just can't understand why anyone would even wear torn jeans, let alone pay a lot of money for them. Well, everyone is different and that's what makes life interesting.

 Don't be afraid to litter the streets of fashion with shredded up pieces of denim, there is nothing like denim to the extreme...

Brogue my Blog

I say brogues are back, but I don’t really think they ever went anywhere. The footwear staple for a lot of Male’s formal and professional outfits over the years, brogues have started becoming more than just a work shoe. They are definitely making a splash in the world of fashion this season, with a lot more variety from the major designers and also the high street catching on quickly. We have started to see the evolution of brogues, with boot/brogue hybrids that have especially caught my eye this year.

Here is a quick description from Wikipedia “Brogues proper are traditional men’s country shoes, less formal than even brogued Oxford shoes, or shoes with less than full broguing. As outdoor shoes, they are normally made in brown and are not traditionally worn in town” – This year we are seeing much more variety in colour ways; with tan, brown and black versions available, I might even be able to find some colour versions today because I saw some in catwalk previews late last year (fingers crossed). As you can see from the quote, they are traditionally associated with a country shoe – so with quilting also being another massive trend this year, we can see why the brogue has also made a revival in fashion circles.

Men’s Fashion is going back to it’s roots this year so the revival of traditional styles with a fashion edge I think is an amazing idea. We are starting to push the boundaries and this is a trend that younger or older audiences can get involved with. You could rock the brogues in an eccentric country bumpkin kind of way with waxed or quilted jacket, flat cap and chinos but really bring it fashion forward by mixing colours and skinny fitting your items. This can really set you apart from the usual crowd.

The other way to wear brogues would be to push the geek chic or modern gentleman vibe. You can pair them with dark denim, and if you pick up some of the modified boot varieties that are on sale right now, you can even tuck your skinny jeans into them. Really push the formal vibe with crisp shirts and blazers, but also bring it bang up to date with skinny or knitted ties, braces and geek specs. Really envelop the whole geek vibe and show that you are being ironic – it oozes confidence and style because you know what you are doing.

Do not be afraid to go for brown or tan versions or brogues, they look just as good with dark denim and also provide more of a focal point than a plain black pair would. Obviously if you are going for an investment piece you might want to stick to the blacks in order to have a shoe that will never go out of fashion.
